About Genuine Jake
Your "Life is good" Clothing Store
Genuine Jake- A store totally dedicated to the "Life is good" products and the attitude they represent. For those of you who don't know - Jake is the smiley guy on the shirts (named after the company's founders Bert and John Jacobs) and his dog is Rocket.
Genuine Jake is owned and operated by us, the Hullett family. Our relationship with "Life is good" began in 2001 when "Life is good" decided to become one of the sponsors of Jamie Hullett on the LPGA Tour. For six years we watched "Life is good" grow into the wonderful brand that it is and Jamie got see first hand the positive reaction from people around the world to her "Life is good" golf bag. When we were presented with the opportunity to open a "Life is good" store here in Rockwall - we jumped.
Genuine Jake opened May 2007 as the first "Life is good" store in the state of Texas and it has been a wonderful ride. We have met some great people a made some great friends.
Come by the shop, meet us, and see some of Jamie's original LPGA golf bags that were the inspiration for Genuine Jake.
The "Life is good" story-
In 1989, Bert and John Jacobs started designing tee shirts. They knew nothing about the clothing business.
For five years, the brothers hawked tee shirts in the streets of Boston and traveled the East Coast, selling door-to-door in college dormitories. They collected some good stories but were not very prosperous. They lived on peanut butter and jelly, slept in their van, and showered when they could. Chicks were not impressed.
By August of 1994, with a combined sum of $78 in the bank the brothers were dangerously close to giving up the dream. And then they created Jake and he showed them the way. One simple smile has led to more smiles than we can count.
Today, Jake is spreading optimism and good vibes worldwide, and the dream continues.
HULLETT TAKES ON NEW BUSINESS VENTURE
Jamie Hullett, who is in her eighth year on the LPGA Tour, has taken on a new business venture with her family. Hullett has opened a new retail store near her home in Texas and can be found there while not teeing it up on Tour. Learn how Hullett went from sporting a Life is good golf bag to stocking the shelves of her new store with Life is good merchandise.
Q: You and your family just opened a new business. Can you tell me a little bit about the store?
JAMIE: The name of our store is Genuine Jake. It is a Life is good Genuine Neighborhood Shop
(GNS). Each GNS is privately owned and carries only Life is good merchandise. Genuine Jake is located in Rockwall, Texas just outside of Dallas. We are in a new development called The Harbor, which is right on Lake Ray Hubbard.
Q: How did you get involved with Life is Good?
JAMIE: I have carried the Life is good bag for several years now. I believe 2001 was when I started my relationship with Life is good. I had been a fan through one of my hobbies, mountain biking. I came across their brand in some bike shops and just loved it. Then I met them at the PGA show the fi
rst year they were there. The guys were so much fun to hang out with. After spending some time with them at the PGA show I was even a bigger fan of their product. These people really practiced what they preached and I wanted to be a part of it. That is when I decided I wanted to some how start a relationship with Life is good. What better way is there than a bag that has Life is good written on it to help you keep things in perspective when you're out there playing golf.
Q: And how did your bag turn into a new business venture for you and your family?
JAMIE: Last year I heard about the opportunity to start up a GNS. The Harbor is just abouta par 5 from my condo and I thought it would be the perfect place for a Life is good store. I talked to my family about it and then talked to Rich Cremin at Life is good and we were off and running. This will be our first venture into the retail world, but we feel like we can't go wrong being a part of this company. We will be the first GNS in Texas and we look forward to spreading good vibes.
